Home Troubleshooting

Power off, but no breakers tripped

Power off, but no breakers tripped

Symtoms

Power is off in part of the house, but when you check the circuit breakers you find no breakers have tripped.

Solutions

  1. Identity the breaker that controls the affected area and turn breaker off then on. Breakers may trip without a visual indication that they have.
  2. Verify that all GFI outlets are reset. GFI outlets may be wired to interrupt both the outlet and other power wired on the same circuit. GFI outlets have a small light (usually green) that is on when the outlet is reset. When tripped, the light goes out and may cause other things on the same circuit to go out. Press the Test button, then the Reset button on the GFI outlet.
